About the Authority

Our history, mandate, and organizational structure

The Addis Ababa Regulation Enforcement Authority was established to ensure compliance with city regulations and maintain order in Ethiopia's capital. Our authority operates under the city administration with a mandate to enforce rules and regulations that make Addis Ababa a better place for all its residents and visitors.

With over 15 years of service, we have evolved to become a modern regulatory body employing 2,500 enforcement officers across 120 districts. Our work covers areas including:
